Break pt. 4 - Getting Ready for Spring

We are getting closer to the start of the Spring semester. I am simultaneously excited and terrified. The upcoming projects sound wonderful and exciting and I am ready to start them all! This could very quickly get complicated though, so we will see how it all goes in a week of two, but I am hopeful!

I just got back from a trip to see my boyfriend's parents yesterday. Now we will be quarantining and getting tested to be safe after flying. I don't mind, I'm just glad we got to see them. It was nice because the airports were very quiet and the planes had lots of empty space. Better to be safe, though.

For next semester, I will be taking 5 courses- 4 of them from Montreal. The general core classes that I have are Food Writing in Montreal and Canadian Culture through Music. I'm very excited for both of these, especially the music one. I was in band from 6th grade through my first year of college playing percussion. Music is so lovely and interesting, I'm so excited to have a course about it again- especially with music that I am not familiar with.

My major-specific courses are going to be awesome, but a lot of work. going through each-

Intermediate Graphics is the one that I will be taking from the Burlington campus. I already know the professor- so that is super nice. That's something that I will really miss with virtual courses- I will probably never meet these professors. We will make the most out of it, though. Graphics programming is very interesting, but I haven't done a lot with it, so it will be fun to learn more about it.

Production II is the Ubisoft Competition! I'm insanely excited, but absolutely terrified. I really want to make a great game for this, and I know we will. It's just a lot of pressure, but I'm sure it will be fun. I've missed production classes and I'm very excited to jump back into it.

Advanced Seminar in Unreal Engine! I am super interested in learning about Unreal and having that as a possibility for future projects. It's a great engine, and I have programmed game mechanics in C++ in previous courses, so it'll be very helpful to combine those and learn how to apply the skills I have learned to the engine. I know the logic flow is different from regular scripting, but I think it'll be great. I'm excited to learn and figure it out.

Next semester should be great! I'm also continuing my job at the Emergent Media Center and we are making a lot of progress! I can't talk about the project very much, but I'm so excited to jump back in with it all and get back to working on it. It's been such a fun time and I'm so happy I get to continue to work with everyone for the rest of the school year.

I hope everyone is ready for the spring semester! To those who have already started classes- I wish you good luck and remember to make the most out of the semester, through everything that is going on that is out of our control as students. Have a great week everyone, be safe!
